At least 50 Pakistani expatriate workers were injured when gunmen opened fire outside a mosque in Oman, Pakistan's ambassador to the sultanate has said, with the shooting killing at least four of its citizens. Imran Ali told The National that at least 20 were being treated for bullet wounds in three hospitals in Muscat, in what Omani authorities are treating as a major incident. Others with minor injuries were discharged, Mr Ali said. The ambassador said a number of worshippers, including women and children, were taken hostage by gunmen and later freed by armed police. It was a hostage situation, there were women and children among the hostages. All of them were released Imran Ali, Pakistan's ambassador to Oman The four people killed were all Pakistani citizens, the embassy confirmed in a social media update shared shortly before 4pm. They were named as Ghulam Abbas, Hasan Abbas, Sayyed Qaisar Abbas and Sulaiman Nawaz.
